Breakfast, weekend brunch, or even breakfast for dinner! This cinnamon French toast recipe is one that the whole family will love!
Quick and Easy Cinnamon French Toast Recipe
This really is a quick and easy breakfast recipe. In fact, in only takes about 15 minutes to prepare and cook your French toast. Cinnamon French toast is my favorite way to eat French toast, and my whole family loves it. As a matter of fact, my oldest frequently asks for it, and when I do make it all my kids are literally jumping for joy!
Additionally, this cinnamon French toast recipe is also freezer friendly! Therefore you can easily make this in a large batch and freeze the extras for later. See below for the instructions on how to freeze and then reheat the frozen French toast.
So let’s get to it! Here’s how to make my favorite cinnamon French toast recipe!
Step One: Gather Ingredients and Supplies
First, the supplies you will need are…
- Griddle or Large Frying Pan
- Spatula
- Medium Mixing Bowl
- Small Mixing Bowl
- Whisk
- Tongs – optional
- Spoon
Second, the ingredients you will need are…
- Thick Sliced Sandwich Bread – You can use regular sandwich bread, however once you soak the break in the milk/egg mixture the bread becomes a lot easier to break. In my opinion, the thick cut bread holds up better.
- Eggs
- Milk
- Cinnamon
- Sugar
- Butter or Cooking Oil – For coating your pan or griddle to help keep the French toast from sticking.
- Splash of Vanilla Extract – optional
Step Two: Make Your Milk and Egg Mixture. As Well as The Cinnamon Sugar Mixture.
First, you will need to make your milk and egg mixture. Take your medium mixing bowl and crack the eggs into the bowl, and discard the shell. Once you’ve added the eggs, add the milk, and vanilla (if using). Finally, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla together until they are well combined.
Second, you need to make the cinnamon sugar mixture. Simply, add the cinnamon and sugar to a small mixing bowl and stir to combine.
You may need to make more cinnamon sugar as you go, depending on how much you use on each piece of French toast. Personally, I like to make a small amount and just make more as a I need it so I don’t waste any.
Alternatively, you can make a spice shaker bottle of cinnamon sugar, and use that!
Finally, once you’ve made these mixtures, set them aside for now.
Cooking with kids tip: If you want to get the littles involved in this recipe, mixing up the two mixtures would be a great step for kids to do.
Step Three: Prepare Your Griddle or Frying Pan
First, coat the pan with butter or oil to help keep the French toast from sticking to the pan while you are cooking.
Second, sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture on a spot of the griddle where you plan to place a piece of bread.
* For an alternative method, see step four below.
Step Four: Coat the Bread
After you have prepared your cooking surface, it’s time to prepare the bread.
First, take a slice of bread and coat it in the milk and egg mixture. I do this by dipping both sides of the bread in the mixture with a pair of tongs. (You can also just use your hands.)
Second, take the coated slice of bread and place it, one side down, on the cinnamon sugar spot of the griddle.
Lastly, use a spoon (or your pre-made shaker) to sprinkle cinnamon sugar on the face up side of the bread.
* Alternatively to doing the sprinkle method in step three for the cinnamon sugar. You can also coat each side by dipping it in the mixture. Simply dip each side of the bread in the cinnamon sugar mixture like you did with the milk and egg mixture.
I find that putting the cinnamon sugar on the griddle and then sprinkling over the top to work better. Once you soak the bread in the egg/milk mixture, the bread will break more easily. So I find this method to be less stressful. Also, when you use the dipping method, the cinnamon sugar mixture gets clumped up from the egg/milk mixture. Requiring you to use more cinnamon and sugar. *
Step Five: Cook the French Toast
After you have your prepared French toast placed on your griddle, it’s time to cook!
First, heat the griddle or pan to medium heat.
Second, cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown. Then flip each slice of bread with a spatula and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
Step Six: Serve and Enjoy This Cinnamon French Toast Recipe!
Finally, the time has come to enjoy your finished cinnamon French toast recipe!
You can serve your French toast as is, or you can cut it into the strips for cinnamon French toast sticks. (French toast sticks are great for dipping!)
Cooking with kids tip: If you have kid safe knives, or your kids know how to safely use a knife, allow them to cut the French toast into strips.
You can serve your French toast however you like, but here are a few ideas of things we enjoy.
Things you may want to top your French toast with: (However, this is so good you may not want to put anything on it.)
- Maple Syrup
- Fruit Topping
- Whipped Cream
- Butter
- Nutella
- Powdered Sugar
Additionally, I like to serve my cinnamon French toast with some fruit and bacon or sausage to really round out the meal!
Save Some For Later!
Another great thing about this recipe is that you can easily freeze any extras you have for later.
To freeze: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, place the French toast on the lined pan. Next, place the pan of French toast in the freezer for about an hour to flash freeze. Finally, transfer the frozen French toast into a freezer bag.
To reheat: First, preheat your oven to 350℉. Next, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the frozen pieces of French toast onto the lined baking sheet. Finally, heat in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Enjoy!
Fresh or Frozen, This Cinnamon French Toast Recipe Will Become a Family Favorite.
To be honest, I never liked French toast. I can’t explain it, I just never liked it. I thought it was bland, and often soggy (which really just isn’t a great texture.) However, once I tried cinnamon French toast, my mind was changed forever. This really is the best French toast recipe!
