Side dishes can be a real hassle sometimes. Especially when you have picky eaters in the house. These cheesy garlic crescent rolls can serve as a side dish for many different meals, snacks, or appetizers.
Crescent rolls are so versatile and easy to work with! Because of that, I keep at least one tube of them in my fridge at all times. One day I decided to stuff them with cheese (because why not?), and they were a smash hit with my kids! So, the next time I tried adding garlic butter to the top, and OH MAN! I mean everything is better with garlic and butter, but from then on cheese stuffed garlic crescent rolls became a favorite in my house.
Side Dish “Safe Food” For Kids.
Something I have found to be helpful when it comes to feeding my kids, is to always have a “safe food” on the plate. (Something I learned from the always amazing, Kids Eat in Color!) This keeps me from cooking a separate meal for my kids, but always gives them something they will eat available to them.
My safe food for my kids changes from meal to meal, but one thing they all have in common is that they are simple. That’s something I love about crescent rolls! My kids love them, and they are so easy to make and jazz up from time to time.
Cheesy garlic crescent rolls are a favorite for my whole family. I know my kids will eat them, so they make an easy safe food side dish! Especially when I am all out of ideas.
Let’s Make Cheesy Garlic Crescent Rolls!
As I said before, these are so easy to make! They take very little time to put together, and the oven does the rest for you! You can easily adapt this to make them in the air fryer as well, for an even quicker cooking time.
This is another recipe that would be great to include the kids in! There are four simple steps that are easy for kids to follow, and simple tasks that are easy to little hands!
Step One: Gather your ingredients and supplies
Supplies you will need…
- Sheet Pan
- Parchment Paper – Optional but highly recommended for easy clean up!
- Spoon
- Small Bowl
Ingredients needed are…
- 1 Tube of crescent rolls
- 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- 1/8 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese – This is used to sprinkle over the top of the cooked rolls. So the amount is really up to you.
- 1/4 cup of Softened Butter
- 2 Tbsp Minced Garlic – Garlic amount is always negotiable. Garlic is meant to be measured with the heart!
- 1 pinch Salt – optional but recommended if you are using unsalted butter
- 1 pinch Basil – optional
Step Two: Make Garlic Butter
Now, there are some really great pre-made garlic butters out there. If you happen to have one, make things even easier and use it!
If you don’t have garlic butter already, this is easy!
First, add your softened butter to a small bowl. Add about a 1/2 tbsp of parmesan cheese, salt, and basil if desired.
Second, stir until everything is combined.
Finally, set aside.
* Cooking With Kids Tip: This is a great step for kids to do! You can have them stir the butter while you start the crescent rolls.
Step 3: Assemble crescent rolls
First, preheat the oven to 375℉, and cover your sheet pan with parchment paper.
* Tip: If your parchment paper keeps rolling up on you, crumple it into a ball. Then open it back up and place on your pan. Bam! No more rolling!
Second, open your can of crescent rolls. Unroll and separate the dough via the perforated lines.
Third, place the triangles on dough on the parchment paper covered sheet pan.
Once, you’ve placed the dough, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese to cover one side of each dough triangle.
Next, roll up the dough into the “crescent” shape by starting with the wide end of the triangle and rolling toward the point.
Finally, use a spoon to dab your garlic butter on the tops of each crescent roll as shown below. No need to worry about spreading the butter, as it will melt in the oven and coat the crescent roll. Just make sure to put butter across the entire top to ensure maximum garlic flavor!
Step 3: Bake Garlic Crescent Rolls
Once you’ve finished assembling the crescent rolls, place the pan in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes. Once the crescent rolls are a nice golden brown color you can remove them from the oven and turn off the heat.
** If you are doing this in the air fryer, set the temperature to 350 ℉ and cook for 7-8 minutes. Depending on your air fryer, you may need to turn them halfway through cooking.
Step 4: Dust Crescent Rolls With Parmesan
After you have removed the garlic crescent rolls from the oven, sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese over the tops of the rolls. (You can use as much or as little as you want. The amount in the recipe below is merely a suggestion.) Place the pan of crescent rolls back in the oven for 1 to 2 minutes, until the parmesan cheese has melted.
Finally, carefully (and with a pot holder!) remove pan from the oven and let cool before serving. We don’t want to burn little mouths!
* Pro Tip: When I want to quickly cool food (these kids get hangry!), I put the plate in the freezer for a couple minutes.
And That’s It! Mouthwatering and Delicious Garlic Crescent Rolls!
How easy was that? Like I said before, these are a simple assemble and put the oven to work kind of recipe!
Not only does this crescent roll recipe make for a great side dish, it’s also a yummy snack! They are so simple, enlist the kids to help you make them and enjoy together!
Pro tip: If the kids are helping, shred some extra cheese! My kids always end up eating more than we use in the recipe. Ha!
